Frequently Asked Questions

The Understanding IQA Award (Unit 1 only) is a theory-only qualification that does NOT require practical IQA activities. It's perfect for building knowledge before securing an IQA role. The full IQA Award (Units 1 + 2) requires you to conduct practical IQA activities with real assessors, including sampling assessment evidence, providing feedback, and conducting standardisation activities.

Yes. You need access to at least two different assessors whose assessment practices you can sample and monitor. This typically means you need to be in an IQA role or have an arrangement with a training organisation/employer to conduct IQA activities as part of your qualification.

You must conduct sampling/monitoring activities for a minimum of four assessments from at least two different assessors. This includes assessing their competency, planning sampling activities, evaluating their assessment practices and decisions, providing feedback, and conducting standardisation activities. You'll also need observation or recording evidence of your IQA practice.

While not mandatory, it is highly recommended that you hold or are working toward a Level 3 assessment qualification (CAVA, AVRA, or ACWE) or have assessment experience. Understanding assessment practices is essential for quality assuring them.
