Frequently Asked Questions

The CAVA (Certificate) is the comprehensive qualification covering BOTH workplace and education/training settings. The AVRA (Award) focuses solely on assessing in education/training environments (classrooms, workshops, simulated settings), while the ACWE (Award) focuses solely on workplace competence assessment. If you'll be assessing in both contexts, CAVA is the right choice. If you only assess in one setting, the relevant Award may be more suitable.

No, but you do need access to at least 2 people to assess in the workplace, and at least two people on a regulated qualification to complete your practical assessment evidence (these can be the same 2 people however)! This could be arranged through a training provider, college, or employer. Many learners secure assessor positions before or during their CAVA to gain this access.

An Expert Witness is a qualified professional who can observe and verify your assessment practice. To be an Expert Witness, they should hold a Level 3 CAVA (or equivalent) and have current assessment experience in a relevant area. This is typically a colleague, line manager, or another assessor within your organisation who can objectively observe your assessment activities and provide evidence of your competence.
